Compression stockings are an important part of managing vein-related problems, but they are effective only when used properly. Wearing them the right way ensures optimal blood flow and maximum benefit.

The best time to wear compression stockings is early in the morning, immediately after waking up. At this time, leg swelling is minimal, making it easier to wear them and ensuring better pressure distribution. Always wear them from the foot upward toward the leg, never the other way around.

Compression stockings are designed with graduated pressure—they apply maximum pressure at the ankle and gradually reduce pressure toward the calf. This helps blood move upward toward the heart. It’s important to choose stockings that fit correctly. Stockings that are too tight can cause discomfort and restrict circulation, while those that are too loose will not provide the required pressure and become ineffective.

After wearing them, make sure the stockings sit smoothly on the skin without folds or wrinkles, as wrinkles can create uneven pressure and cause discomfort. You can safely remove the stockings before going to bed at night, as they are generally not required during sleep unless advised by a doctor.

Proper care also helps extend the life of compression stockings. Wash them in cool water using mild detergent and air-dry them. Avoid hot water, wringing, or machine drying, as heat can damage the elastic fibers. If you notice that the stockings have lost their elasticity or no longer fit properly, it’s time to replace them with a new pair.

When worn and maintained correctly, compression stockings can significantly reduce leg discomfort, swelling, and heaviness—helping keep your veins healthier and your legs more comfortable throughout the day.
